Saturn's Bizarre North Pole

"We've never seen anything like it on any other planet," says atmospheric scientist Kevin Baines of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It is a hexagon twice as wide as Earth encircling Saturn's north pole. First observed by the Voyager spacecraft in the 1980s, the hexagon has been sighted anew by the Cassini probe:

A bizarre six-sided feature encircling the north pole of Saturn near 78 degrees north latitude has been spied by NASA's Cassini spacecraft. This image is one of the first clear images ever taken of the north polar region as seen from a unique polar perspective.

ASTBURY LEAVES DOORS BAND TO REJOIN THE CULT

Singer IAN ASTBURY is leaving his DOORS bandmates to rejoin THE CULT. The British star has been performing with The Doors' keyboardist RAY MANZAREK, 68, and guitarist ROBBY KRIEGER, 61, in RIDERS ON THE STORM for the past four years but is desperate to work with The Cult again. Astbury says, "I have learned a great deal from the both of them, and it certainly has expanded my abilities as a performer. "This has been a difficult decision to make but I feel I would be holding them back as well as myself if I did not depart at this time." Riders Of The Storm have already started a search to replace Astbury.

The Prometheus Plume

What's happening on Jupiter's moon Io? An eruption is visible on Jupiter's volcanic moon Io. A bluish plume rises above the surface on the top of the image. Named for the Greek god who gave mortals fire, the Prometheus plume is visible in every image ever made of the region dating back to the Voyager flybys of 1979 - presenting the possibility that this plume has been continuously active for at least 18 years.
